BKPM: US$400mn Business Agreements Reached at Invest Manado PDF Print E-mail

Manado International Conference on Tourism (Invest Manado) held by the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has resulted in business agreements worth US$400 million. The BKPM chairman Thomas Lembong reveals that the business agreements prove that Indonesia’s tourism sector is developing nicely. “Business agreements and investment commitment resulted [at the conference] are concrete proofs of the government’s efforts to draw more investment,” Lembong said in Manado yesterday (24/5). That includes agreements between Chinese investors and Indonesian businessmen to build hotels, apartments, shopping malls and diving centers in South Manado worth US$200 million and granting of investment expansion permit to US investors for cottage and tourism development in Raja Ampat worth US$200 million.

Bank Indonesia Ready to Restart Talks on Rupiah Redenomination PDF Print E-mail

Bank Indonesia is ready to restart discussions with the House of Representatives on the redenomination of the rupiah, a director at the country's central bank said on Wednesday (24/05). The plan to slash some zeroes from the country's currency has been floated since 2010, but it faced several setbacks, ranging from global financial shocks, to lawmakers not having enough time to deliberate the matter. "We are ready anytime the government or the House ask for a discussion. But the timing is not for us to decide," said Dody Budi Waluyo, Bank Indonesia's head of economic and monetary policy.

Investment saving balance of payments: BI PDF Print E-mail

Investment has become the savior pushing Indonesia's balance of payments (BoP) into positive territory amid increasing imports and secondary income from abroad. In the first quarter, Indonesia recorded a US$4.5 billion surplus in the BoP, according to data from Bank Indonesia (BI). The $7.9 billion surplus in the financial account that came from transactions such as direct investments and portfolio investments has covered the $2.4 billion deficit in the current account, said the head of BI's statistics department, BoP analysis and reporting, Tutuk Setya Hadi Cahyono, in Jakarta over the weekend.

Premium Sales Decline due to Changing Consumers Behavior PDF Print E-mail

State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina marketing director Muchamad Iskandar said that the number of consumers of RON 88 or Premium fuel in the first quarter of 2017 significantly declined compared to 2016. “In the first quarter of 2016, Premium proportional consumption stood at 83 percent. Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2017, the consumption dropped to 44.3 percent,” Iskandar said yesterday at Pertamina head office in central Jakarta. He said that consumers have shifted from Premium to special fuel, such as Pertalite and Pertamax.
