The Netherlands have a worldwide reputation for water management. Dutch companies and institutions work together very closely to continuously develop new technologies to meet the ever growing challenges of providing clean water to people, irrigating agricultural land, and protecting coastal areas against flooding. Indonesia faces many water challenges. Meeting the challenges requires top level technological expertise, new financial solutions, investment and management. The Dutch water companies and institutions active in Indonesia have therefore this year established the Netherlands Water Partnership in Indonesia (NWPI). The objective of the Netherlands Water Partnership in Indonesia is to find integrated solutions to Indonesia's water challenges. This includes proposing integrated solutions to securing clean water sources, cleaning, transporting and distributing water to urban populations, and protecting areas close to rivers and seas against flooding and seawater infiltration. Companies of the Netherlands Water Partnership are already involved in implementing innovative systems of drinking water supply in cities in eastern Indonesia, and solutions to flooding problems in coastal areas of Java and Sumatra. Water projects in Indonesia carried out by Dutch companies and institutions may be financially supported by the Dutch government in the Partners for Water Program, or in funds made available through multilateral institutions such as the World Bank.
