Indonesian Employers' Association Apindo celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 31 January. Chairman Sofyan Wanandi made a passionate plea to governors and bupatis to respect the outcome of negotations between employers and employees on minimum wages.
He criticized governors and bupatis who seek popular support by increasing minimum wages by more than the agreed increases. This jeopardizes the social dialogue and social economic stability, as the labour actions in Bekasi may expand to other regions, a development that can already be seen in Tangerang and Batam. Co-Ordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa shared Sofyan Wanandi's concerns and stated that he will call upon all Governors, in a special meeting on 1 February, to respect the outcome of the social dialogue. At the same occasion, Apindo signed MoUs with the international chamber of commerce, including INA, to work together to improve the investment climate in Indonesia and stimulate co-operation between Indonesian and foreign companies. |
