he Why Factory (T?F) is a global think-tank and research institute, led by Winy Maas/ MVRDV at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). The Why Factory explores the possibilities for the future development of our cities, focusing on the production of models and visualizations for cities of the future. At the Erasmus Huis in Jakarta, The Why Factory would like to share 2 of its most exciting projects within the 'Future Cities series': Visionary Cities and Green Dream. In Visionary Cities, The Why Factory asks 'What is an urban vision and why do we need one?' and invites you to join them as they explore potential solutions for 12 urgencies that are threatening our cities today. Green Dream approaches a contentious topic of environmental sustainability. It makes a series of alarming and sometimes contradictory observations on today’s state of Green as it plays out in architecture, politics, technology, economics and our personal lives. It explores the topic in an analytical, yet experimental way with the aim to provide a basis for a new argumentation.

Green Talk is a public event that brings visionary thinkers in architecture and urbanism together to discuss about the state of green in the world today. In this debate, the audience can interact with the very special speakers whom we have invited for this event. There is confusion about what green means for design, architecture and urbanism. Winy Maas in the well-acclaimed book Green Dream (NAi publisher, 2010) asserts that green projects are still disconnected efforts which fail to attain the scale of the interventions that are actually called for. Green is fashionable, but its design potentials remain unexplored. The discussion will involve questioning what is currently labelled as ‘green’ and if it makes sense in the bigger picture. It challenges architectural conventions and looks into the potentials of new green architecture. It recognizes that green buildings alone do not make a green city, but also looks at potential solutions within the cities themselves, how it will change them and where the boundaries lie. Is a green city actually feasible? Is green is ultimately about performance? The discussion will comment on green urban projects and observations of the future.
